Waving the Green Flag
The Waving the Green Flag symposium was hosted at the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CSC 2024) in Winnipeg, June 2-6. This year participants experienced a series of interactive, exploratory-based activities focused on emerging methods in sustainable chemistry, inorganic catalysis, measures of sustainability, and green chemistry education.
Through a lens of gamification and accessibility the symposium challenged the expectations of traditional symposia (posters and presentation), to empower participants to engage in conversations centering on critical reflection and thinking about how we can better understand the chemistry through a multi-faceted view of sustainability and synthesis.
Organizers: Marissa L. Clapson (UPEI), Emma Davy (UBC), Connor Durfy (Western), Greg Bannard (UWindsor), Jasmine Hong (McGill), Gagan Daliaho (McGill), Shauna Schechtel (Queens), Julia Pitsiaeli (UBC).
Societal Impacts of Inorganic Chemistry
Hosted at the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CSC 2023) in Vancouver, the Societal Impacts of Inorganic Chemistry symposium focused on creating interactive, inquiry-based activities to introduce participants to concepts of sustainability, life cycle analysis, and green catalyst development.
Participants throughout the session utilized green chemistry principles to solve puzzles, brainstormed new catalyst motifs, and developed a network of like-minded researchers.
Organizers: Marissa L. Clapson (UWindsor), Shauna Schechtel (Queens), Emma Davy (UBC), Sabrina Scott (UBC), and Connor Durfy (Western).
